JD Industrials Unveils “Joy industrial” – The First AI Model Designed for Industrial Supply Chain Transformation

On May 22, JD Industrials, also known as JINGDONG Industrials, a leading digital supply chain technology and service provider under JD.com, announced the launch of “Joy industrial,” a groundbreaking AI model engineered specifically to optimize industrial supply chains. This comprehensive AI solution spans computing infrastructure, algorithms, and practical applications to help businesses reduce costs, improve efficiency, ensure compliance, and strengthen supply chain resilience.

Deep Focus on Industrial Domain

Joy industrial introduces a suite of specialized AI agents tailored for industrial environments. For example, on the supply side, its Demand Agent, Operations Agent, and Customs Agent automate and refine supplier workflows, while enterprise buyers benefit from the Product Expert and Integration Expert tools, which streamline procurement and system integration. The model is initially being deployed in sectors with complex coordination challenges, including automotive (covering both electric vehicles and aftermarket services), robotics, oil and gas, and power grid operations.

Dr. He Xiaodong, Deputy Director of JD Explore Academy and President of JD Technology AI, emphasized the practical foundation of Joy industrial: “Industrial AI must solve real business problems, not just showcase technical capabilities. Unlike generic AI models, Joy industrial is trained on proprietary supply chain data; 30% of its knowledge base comes directly from JD’s ecosystem of over 10 million industrial SKUs and 8 million enterprise clients, giving it unmatched industry applicability.”

Redefining Supply Chain Efficiency

Joy industrial represents a major advancement in supply chain technology. The solution has the ability to interpret complex industrial data such as product categories and technical specifications, with self-improving architecture that learns from real-world applications,  and scalable implementation ranging from task automation to enterprise-wide coordination.

“This technology will not only optimize current processes, it will fundamentally reshape how industrial supply chains operate,” said Gu Yingkun, Vice President of JD Industrials and General Manager of its Industrial Technology Department.

Early adopters have already reported transformative results. The Demand Agent reduces procurement matching time from 48 hours to mere hours, delivering a 140% efficiency gain through instant analysis of historical procurement records. The Operations Agent cuts compliance costs by 33.2% while detecting and blocking 75% of fraudulent orders. For manufacturers operating across borders, the Customs Agent accelerates documentation processing by 40% to 66%, significantly reducing administrative delays.

A Complete AI Solution for Industry

Alongside the large language model launch, JD Industrials introduced its Industrial AI All-in-One Machine, a ready-to-deploy hardware solution preloaded with supply chain optimization modules. This turnkey offering ensures businesses can quickly integrate AI capabilities into their operations without extensive setup.

“The AI era is here and is fundamentally reshaping industrial supply chains,” said Gu Yingkun. “At JD Industrials, we’re committed to developing AI solutions that bridge the gap between technological potential and real-world industrial impact. Our Joy industrial model represents this commitment, delivering measurable efficiency gains while accelerating the transition to next-generation industrial ecosystems.”

JD.com Deepens Commitment to Education with Launch of JINGDONG Hall and Smart Delivery Service Center at Renmin University of China

On May 17, JINGDONG Hall, a new building for the School of Sociology at Renmin University of China (RUC), was officially inaugurated at the university’s new Tongzhou campus in Beijing.  Spanning approximately 31,000 square meters, the building was generously donated by Richard Liu, Founder and Chairman of JD.com and an alumnus of RUC.

In 2017, Mr. Liu donated RMB 300 million to establish the RUC JD Fund, which is the largest social donation in the university’s history. The fund supports the development of the Tongzhou campus and promote academic excellence in fields such as sociology, law, journalism, the internet, artificial intelligence, finance, and economics. It also aims to cultivate the next generation of academic talent through expanded scholarships, grants, and faculty awards, enabling outstanding educators and students—especially those from underprivileged backgrounds.

A JD.com spokesperson said that, “Guided by our business value of ‘achieving success the right way,’ JD.com is committed to creating social value through business practices and giving back to the communities.”

Coinciding with the announcement of JINGDONG Hall, JD Logistics launched a Smart Delivery Service Center at the campus. Designed to improve the delivery experience for students and faculty, the center will address the rising volume of on-campus parcel traffic and the need for more efficient, tech-enabled logistics.

With an area of nearly 700 square meters, the service center is equipped with JD Logistics’ latest technologies—including autonomous delivery vehicles, indoor delivery robots, intelligent lockers, and automated sorting systems.

JD Logistics’ sixth-generation autonomous delivery vehicles are now in operation on campus.  Equipped with a 4-cubic-meter cargo bay and a maximum load capacity of 1,000 kg, the vehicle possesses Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities. With advanced perception technology powered by large-scale language model, the vehicles can navigate campus environments safely and avoid obstacles autonomously, delivering packages directly to dormitories, offices, and academic buildings. Indoor delivery robots are also used, which can operate elevators and access gates and fire doors, completing end-to-end indoor delivery tasks with full autonomy.

The Smart Delivery Service Center also offers a range of value-added services, including cold chain storage, temporary lockers for small parcels, shared trolleys, and reusable packaging. JD Logistics has partnered with recycling company AHS Recycle to deploy smart recycling machines, encouraging students to adopt greener lifestyles.

By integrating advanced technology with human expertise, JD Logistics is building a model of “human-machine synergy” that improves operational efficiency, reduces the physical burden on delivery staff, and provides a smarter, more personalized campus logistics experience.

JD.com Recognized on FORTUNE’s China ESG Impact List for Fourth Consecutive Year

JD.com has once again earned a spot on FORTUNE’s 2025 China ESG Impact List, marking its fourth consecutive year of recognition. The ranking highlights 100 companies demonstrating exceptional performance in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices.

JD.com is named to 2025 FORTUNE China’s ESG Impact List on May 16

A Benchmark for Employee Welfare and Social Responsibility

FORTUNE China commended JD.com for setting industry-leading standards in workforce welfare, including being the first private enterprise in China to sign formal labor contracts and provide comprehensive social insurance and housing funds (“五险一金”) to all frontline employees.

In 2024, JD further solidified its commitment to talent development by launching its largest-ever global campus recruitment drive, offering 18,000 positions with significantly enhanced compensation packages.

The company also unveiled two landmark projects: a 110,000-square-meter global training base in Suqian, Jiangsu Province, designed to accommodate over 2,000 trainees, and the first phase of “JD Youth City,” a residential complex offering nearly 4,000 fully furnished apartments for employees. Notably, JD reported zero violations in information security and privacy protection in 2024.

Leading the Shift from “E” to Holistic ESG Progress

FORTUNE China observed a broader trend among Chinese companies this year: a shift from prioritizing environmental (“E”) metrics alone to embracing a more balanced approach with social (“S”) and governance (“G”) initiatives. As industries grapple with diminishing returns from hyper-competition, businesses increasingly recognize that human capital, like natural resources, demands sustainable stewardship. Many are actively reducing overtime, enhancing benefits, and emphasizing employee well-being.

JD.com exemplifies this evolution. With over 720,000 employees as of April 30, 2025, JD stands as a leading private employer model in China by embracing corporate responsibility. The company’s “People First” philosophy extends beyond traditional logistics, now covering full-time food delivery riders with full social insurance and housing fund contributions—a first in the industry in China. JD also assumes the riders’ personal contribution share, ensuring financial security and dignity for this growing workforce.

A Legacy of Promises Kept

Richard Liu, JD.com’s Founder and Chairman, reflected on a defining 2024 milestone: over 1,200 veteran delivery employees retired with comprehensive benefits, including steady monthly pensions, lump-sum housing fund withdrawals, and full medical coverage. “In 2007, when hiring our first delivery colleague, I pledged to secure their futures through comprehensive benefits. Today, that promise sustains tens of thousands of families,” Liu shared in a March social media post, calling it his “most fulfilling achievement” in 20 years of entrepreneurship.

On March 28, JD Food Delivery hosted a signing ceremony to welcome new full-time riders. This initiative aligns with JD’s decade-long dedication to frontline employees, celebrated on April 28 at the 10th anniversary of its “Frontline Workers Day.” Originally to honor delivery personnel, the event now recognizes diverse roles, from riders and customer service representatives to housekeeping cleaners and more, reinforcing JD’s mission to provide dignified, stable careers.

In December 2024, JD Logistics honored its courier Chen Haiyan with a retirement ceremony

JD.com remains committed to the company’s “People First” ethos, driving innovations in employee welfare and community impact. As the company grows, so does its resolve to empower every worker, ensuring not just livelihoods but brighter futures.

JD Logistics Launches International All-Cargo Air Route Between Wuhu, China and Hanoi, Vietnam

JD Logistics, also known as JINGDONG Logistics, has officially launched a new international all-cargo air route connecting Wuhu, China with Hanoi, Vietnam—marking the first direct freight flight service from Wuhu to Vietnam. This new route builds on JD Logistics’ growing Southeast Asia air network, which already includes routes between Shenzhen and Bangkok, as well as Shenzhen and Kuala Lumpur.

Leveraging the strategic location of Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport (IATA:WHA) in China’s Yangtze River Delta, this new route enables efficient multimodal transportation across air, rail, road, and waterways, covering most of China’s core cities within 2-4 hours. The Wuhu to Hanoi route will primarily serve as a critical channel for exporting apparel, home appliances, furniture, and mechanical parts from eastern and central China to Vietnam, while facilitating the import of Vietnamese specialty goods into China. Operating 2–3 times per week, each flight can carry up to 20 tons of cargo.

The launch is part of JD Logistics’ broader strategy to build its “11668” global supply chain air network.

In recent years, JD Logistics has made significant progress in expanding its global end-to-end logistics capabilities. The company now operates over 100 bonded, direct mail, and overseas warehouses worldwide, managing more than 1 million square meters. In Southeast Asia alone, JD Logistics runs 7 overseas warehouses, supporting local businesses, Chinese brands expanding globally, and cross-border e-commerce sellers. In 2024, the company’s Southeast Asia business has more than doubled in volume year-over-year, driven by deepening strategic partnerships across the region.

JD Logistics is also rapidly expanding its cross-border air freight capabilities across Southeast Asia, with air routes now serving Vietnam, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Malaysia. Looking ahead, the company will continue investing in its three strategic pillars—overseas warehouses, international air freight, and global express delivery—as it works to build a seamless and efficient global supply chain logistics network for businesses and consumers worldwide.

JD Flowers Blossoms at 9th International Rose Symposium with Supply Chain Innovation

The 9th International Rose Research and Cultivation Symposium kicked off on May 10 in Mentougou District of Beijing. It is the first time that China is hosting the symposium in its 40-year history. Among standout participants, JD Flowers – the floral division of JD.com – seized the spotlight by presenting its cross-border supply chain solutions at the Diplomats’ Cultural Exchange Salon. The salon drew over 150 ambassadors and representatives from more than 30 countries and international organizations.

Under the theme “The Magic Door to Flowers Anywhere,” JD Flowers showcased its global floral network through an immersive presentation. Attendees followed the journey of blooms from Dutch tulip fields to Ecuadorian rose farms, highlighting JD’s unparalleled ability to deliver freshly cut flowers to Chinese consumers.

By leveraging JD’s global procurement network, dedicated cargo flights, advanced freshness-preservation warehouses, and instant retail ecosystem, JD Flowers can now achieve a remarkable 9-minute delivery window for internationally sourced flowers from the moment an order is placed via JD’s app. “We’re transforming flowers from occasional luxuries into everyday emotional companions,” said Jensen Liu, Head of JD Flowers. “Every bouquet carries cross-cultural connections.”

Capitalizing on China’s thriving $15 billion floral market, JD Flowers has a large amount of urban white-collar users, who account for 70% of its user base, and taps into JD.com’s 600 million active users.

Earlier this year, JD.com airlifted one million Dutch tulips from FloraHolland’s Aalsmeer hub to China. Stored in JD Logistics’ Guangzhou floral centers using 2-8°C temperature-controlled packaging, the flowers were distributed nationwide via cold-chain networks for same-day or next-day delivery.

Beyond floral displays, JD’s National Pavilion enriched the event’s multicultural bazaar with flagship stores representing Australia, Azerbaijan, and other nations. Visitors sampled global delicacies and handicrafts in a demonstration of JD’s growing role as a cultural bridge between Chinese consumers and international markets.

Running through May 15, the five-day symposium features over 1,000 domestic and international rose varieties. The event aligns with JD Flowers’ mission to blend technological innovation with cultural exchange. By optimizing cross-border floral logistics and curating premium global experiences, JD.com strengthens its position as the gateway for international brands entering China – and a trailblazer in building sustainable, high-efficiency supply chains.
