Jinfeng Yi, head of JD’s AI Research Center, has been announced as one of MIT Technology Review’s “Innovators Under 35 in China” for 2020. The list was announced at a summit held by MIT Technology Review in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province on Dec. 11 and 12. This year is the fourth edition of the list, which aims at spotlighting China’s leading community of innovators, pioneers, and social change makers.

Yi, who is 32 years old, leads his team at JD to make technology breakthroughs in AI, especially in leveraging big data for precise analysis and forecasting, as well as recommendations to support a product’s full life circle, in order to narrow the R&D time for a product.

Yi and his team also developed a Consumer-to-Manufacturer (C2M) system which can connect customers and suppliers, making the supply chain management more efficient, including the industries of home appliances, agriculture, home furnishing and fashion. Brands and merchants can benefit from the system by tailoring the production, which has helped them accelerate the digitalization process.

JD has long been devoted to C2M initiatives. During JD’s Y Open Day held last month, JD announced plans to build a small appliances C2M innovation center with over 500 brands, and also emphasized the C2M trend. JD has worked with over 1,000 brands on C2M initiatives, covering over 900 categories. Going forward, JD will continue to invest in C2M, building specific innovation centers for key categories.
