JDT Releases Rural “Digital Intelligence” Whitepaper with Think Tanks

The Rural Digital & Intelligent (DI) Whitepaper 2021 was released on December 21 by the National Academy of Economic Strategy (NAES) of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Information Center of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of P.R.C and JDT. This whitepaper elaborates on the concept of rural digital intelligence. China’s first Digital & Intelligent Rural Index (DIRI) was released at the same time.

The Whitepaper defines for the first time the concept of “Rural DI”, which refers to the comprehensive use of AI, big data, blockchain, cloud computing, IoT, and other digital intelligence technologies to build a set of rural infrastructure represented by the rural DI operating system, with which to promote the DI of rural industries, modernization of rural life.

China’s first Digital & Intelligent Rural Index (DIRI) covers four aspects: Infrastructure, production and services, environment and governance, and living standards, which quantifies the development level of the Rural DI comprehensively.

As shown in the DIRI index, the level of China’s Rural DI construction is developing rapidly, with the national index reaching 23.92, which is 4,97 times higher compared to 4.81 in 2016, with an average annual growth rate of more than 20%.

With the technical support of JD Cloud and practice in various parts of China, JD Technology comes first in proposing JDT rural DI solution, activating and driving the circulation flow of five key elements: information, business, logistics, capital, and talent.

Wang Xiaobing, director of the Information Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said that data has become a new factor of production and important support for the modernization of agriculture and rural areas, together with land, capital, human resources, and knowledge management. The Rural Digital & Intelligent(DI) Whitepaper 2021 presents a comprehensive picture of this important change of the times.

JD.com Donates Protection Materials and Living Supplies to Xi’an

At 3 am on December 24, a truckload of protection materials and living supplies donated by JD.com were transported to Xi’an, ranging from masks, medical protective clothing and disinfectants to tents, drinking water and instant noodles, among many others. The city is currently under lockdown after a recent COVID-19 outbreak.

JD has strengthened its disinfection measures across the supply chain in Xi’an to ensure goods safety by disinfecting all of the logistics and shopping venues, devices, parcels and vehicles on an hourly basis.

JD Health rapidly launched a 24×7 free consultation service for users in Xi’an and other places stricken by the new round of COVID-19 cases. The free service covers nearly 20 out-patient departments that meet users’ various demands.

JD’s SEVEN FRESH supermarkets in Xi’an provide daily necessities to local customers without interruption.

While ensuring supplies will reach the frontline, JD.com provides COVID-19 insurance to all of its employees in Xi’an.

At the same time, JD Logistics has deployed several autonomous delivery vehicles in Xi’an Jiaotong University, Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute and Shaanxi Railway Institute to provide contactless delivery to teachers and students.

In 2012, JD.com’s founder Richard Liu announced a company regulation stating that if a disaster happens anywhere in the country, the nearest JD warehouse should immediately donate and transport its goods to meet the emergency demands, and that the management of any such warehouse would not need to obtain prior approval.

JD Fresh Partners with World’s Largest Meat Supplier JBS

JBS, the world’s largest meat supplier, partnered with JD Fresh, JD.com’s fresh food business, marking the Brazil-based meat supplier’s first foray into retail business in China. Under the partnership, JBS will launch a flagship store on JD.com.

With 220 factories across the world, JBS offers a wide selection of beef products from many countries, such as Brazil, the United States, Australia, and more.

Through the partnership, JD Fresh will help JBS connect with over 550 million customers on JD.com, providing Chinese consumers with diverse and high-quality choices of meat.

According to JBS, its beef exports to China account for 20%-30% of China’s total beef imports, and data from China’s General Administration of Customs shows China’s meat imports grew by 59.6% YOY in 2020, totaling $30.73 billion US dollars.

To ensure meat freshness and supply chain stability, JD Fresh will also purchase directly from JBS’s factories in Brazil on a regular basis. With JD’s cold chain logistics and pandemic preventive measures in place, including the blockchain-based tracing system, JD Fresh strictly controls each step of the process, from packaging, shipping and storage, all the way to delivery. By scanning a QR code attached to the product, customers are able to have an easy access to the information on the product origin, customs clearance, distribution date, and more.

JD Fresh will continue to work with JBS to explore pathways for direct-purchase from Uruguay, Argentina, and other countries.

Guangzhou Huadu District Partners with JD Logistics on Smart Last Mile Delivery

Guangzhou Huadu District signed a partnership with JD Logistics at the Future Automotive and Mobility Conference held by the World Economic Forum in Guangzhou on December 21. The two parties will collaborate in smart last mile delivery and co-construct a demonstration zone for autonomous delivery vehicles.

According to the agreement, JD Logistics will provide its autonomous delivery vehicles for Huadu District, meeting specific needs of the individuals, institutions and enterprises. The two parties will build contactless urban delivery models and eventually open up and replicate to other regions. According to Huadu District, by 2025, the pilot zone will cover 970 square kilometers of the whole district.

Qiang Wang, head of the JD Logistics intelligent supply chain platform & JD-X logistics innovation lab, said that JD Logistics will continue to join hands with more partners to explore in technology R&D and operations of last mile autonomous delivery technologies. “We will collaborate together to promote the construction of urban smart connected delivery network,” he said.

During this Singles Day, JD Logistics applied nearly 400 autonomous delivery vehicles in more than 25 cities in China, delivering 200% more orders compared with the same period last year. So far, JD’s vehicles have been used in scenarios such as residential compounds, commercial centers, business parks, hotels, university campuses, supermarkets and more.

SEVEN FRESH Announces Development Goals

SEVEN FRESH, JD.com’s fresh food store, announced its development goals on December 22, striving to become top-notch chain retail brand in China within the next 5-7 years.

SEVEN FRESH’s development goals revolve around supply chain networks, products and service quality.

“As SEVEN FRESH continues to develop its business across China, it will primarily focus on two regions, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Urban Agglomeration and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,” noted Feng Zheng, president of SEVEN FRESH.

In order to better distribute resources and minimize losses, SEVEN FRESH is set to build two commodity centers in northern and southern China respectively, which will help improve supply chain efficiency, cater to local markets, and secure food freshness.

As of now, SEVEN FRESH has 47 stores in 13 cities across 9 provinces plus Beijing. It has entered a rapid growth period since the second quarter of 2021, and its GMV grew by 85% YOY this August.

By working with China’s top-tier real estate companies, SEVEN FRESH hopes to bring high-quality shopping experiences to Chinese consumers through its ecosystem, omni-channel approach, and supply chain. The joint venture of SEVEN FRESH and Better Life opened their first store in the southern city of Changsha this June, and the second one followed suit in November, with 5 more stores expected to open by 2022.

JD.com to Partner with Shandong Energy Group Company in Rural Revitalization

JD.com announced its partnership with Shandong Energy Group Company, one of the largest energy companies in China on December 14. The two companies aim to facilitate rural revitalization and the development of the fresh produce industry, in addition to expanding cooperation in employee welfare, industrial products, smart logistics, and more. Lei Xu, president of JD.com, and Baocai Zhang, general manager of Shandong Energy Group Company, witnessed the signing ceremony.

JD and Shandong Energy Group Company will look into co-building the “enterprise distribution warehouse” model and creating a smart management park for material supplies, which integrates smart technology into storage, management, picking and placing.

On rural revitalization, the two companies will also focus on smart villages. With the help of 5G, artificial intelligence and other technologies, they will jointly build smart systems for the agricultural industry as well as integrated agricultural smart service platforms. In addition, they will work on the standardization, digitalization, and tracing system for fresh produce. A high-quality digital production demo base for fresh produce is also expected to be built.

JD.com Develops a New Intelligence Retail Chain Model with Hitaly

JD.com and Hitaly signed a cooperation agreement on Dec. 16, in which the two sides will cooperate in various fields such as online and offline retail, cross-border e-commerce, international and domestic logistics and warehousing, and supply chain fintech. Dr. Paul Yan, vice president of JD.com and president of JD Retail Cloud, and Stard Huang, vice president of JD.com and president of JD’s international logistics division, attended the signing ceremony.

JD will provide customized solutions for Hitaly through JD Retail Cloud, which will provide a technology platform and related technical services covering all aspects of the industry chain, including procurement, operation and inventory.

For sales business cooperation, JD will open up online and offline channels for Hitaly, provide support for the sales operation of Hitaly’s cross-border products in JD Worldwide and help to build the Hitaly intelligent shopping park.

When it comes to the logistics business, JD will provide integrated supply chain services for Hitaly through digital technology and equipment support such as unmanned warehouses, 3D warehouses, and AGV robots for warehousing, transportation and distribution.

The two sides will also accelerate the construction of a supply chain fintech platform and explore deeper and broader cooperation.

Leveraging experiences accumulated in the retail industry for years, JD Retail Cloud has developed the ability to provide technology platforms and technical services to build a full-chain production, supply and sales platform in both B2B and B2C businesses, which will effectively improve business operation efficiency while reducing comprehensive procurement and inventory costs for partners.

Givenchy Launches Online Boutique Through JD App

In collaboration with JD.com, Givenchy has launched a customized online boutique on Dec.15 in the form of a mini-program, which can be re-directed by typing “Givenchy clothing” or “Givenchy bags” on JD’s app. This is the first time Givenchy has collaborated with a Chinese e-commerce retailer.

For this collaboration, Givenchy is debuting a limited-edition 2022 Chinese New Year collection. Inspired by the Chinese Lunar New Year of Tiger, Givenchy has created new items in black, white, and red along with the iconic metallic 4G locking clasp, blending its pioneering attitude and a festive flair for the New Year.

Apart from Givenchy, over 300 brands including Dior, DELVAUX, and TAG Heuer will launch over 200 new products to enhance the choice of Christmas and New Year’s gifts for consumers as part of the JD Luxury Festival that started on Dec. 17.

More than 300 brands have already launched flagship stores on JD through multiple customized and digitalized collaboration formats. Following LV, more and more brands, such as BVLGARI, Dior, LOEWE, Givenchy have partnered with JD through the model customized by JD. Currently, most of the LVMH brands are in JD’s pipeline.

Known worldwide for its unique style of haute couture and accessories, Givenchy was founded in 1952 by Hubert de Givenchy. Later in 2020, creative director Matthew M. Williams joined GIVENCHY, bringing an independent and strong design style to the brand, conveying a spontaneous and unrestrained fashion attitude.
