JD Health Celebrates World Hearing Day

by Vivian Yang

To mark World Hearing Day on Mar. 3, JD Health is offering free online hearing tests and medical consultations on its telemedicine platform from Mar. 1 to 3. The company will hold a discussion with Prof. Yongxin Li, the chief otologist of Beijing Tongren Hospital via livestream to enhance the public’s awareness of hearing-related care.

Thanks to its online to offline (O2O) model and close collocation with hearing aid brands, JD Health users can screen their hearing ability and consult a doctor, and then, based on the result, decide to book more precise examinations from professional offline service outlets, and order customized hearing aids.

“JD Health’s O2O service aims to offer a more convenient and reliable hearing aid purchase solution for our customers to help them find the most suitable devices and save time on making multiple appointments and undergoing multiple examinations in-person,” said a representative of JD Health.

To date, JD Health has cooperated with more than 1,300 offline hearing aid service centers across the country on its O2O service, with 500 centers offering home services for testing and device matching.

According the advice from JD Health’s doctor, early examination is critical for the treatment of hearing problems. Especially in case of sudden deafness symptoms, it is best to intervene within 24 hours.

WHO’s statistics show that currently there are about 450 million people in the world suffering from hearing loss. The number is estimated to reach 900 million by 2050, which means 1 in every 10 people will suffer hearing disabilities. And among them, only a small portion will actively pursue medical intervention. This may lead to a higher risk of suffering from depression and Alzheimer’s disease.

JD Pioneer: Connecting Every Rural Corner

by Yuchuan Wang

JD Logistics (JDL) is proactively penetrating China’s rural market with its business and infrastructure development, connecting rural area with e-commerce and logistics services and provide the same-level services offered in big cities.

JD’s Huatugou delivery station in Mangya, Qinghai province is led by Binbin Cui, who is responsible for the last-mile fulfillment of JD’s orders in the township of Huatugou. About 1,200 kilometers away from Xining, the capital of Qinghai province, Huatugou has an average altitude of 3,000 meters. Previously having worked in Xining, Cui volunteered to move to the township and established the station in 2018.

Three years later, the amount of daily parcels he delivers has increased over 30 times from the initial ten or twenty he delivered when he first arrived. “In the past, it was unimaginable for most of the local people to shop on the internet so conveniently and have orders delivered within days,” said Cui.

Mangya has an oilfield, where migrant workers are on the frontline of petroleum extraction. To deliver to these frontline workers, Cui once drove 280 kilometers for the longest delivery. This year, ahead of Chinese New Year, many workers who were not able to go back to their hometowns sent Mangya’s specialties to their families thousand miles away through Cui, via JD Express.

Couriers like Cui are one of many at JD. In 2014, JD launched the “pioneer station” plan, which gives opportunities for couriers to go back to their hometowns to establish stations extending JD’s services in remote areas.

Last year, JDL announced that it will upgrade its lower-tier markets program to provide 24-hour delivery service in over a thousand counties and tens of thousands of townships in China. As of now, JD’s logistics networks cover almost all districts and counties in China.

“Fighting Fire like Superheroes”: Stories of JD Auto Service Stores

by Rachel Liu

Mr. Jian, the owner of the JD Auto Service Dezhong store in Xi’an, never imagined that his store would become famous locally just one month after opening last November.

The store’s staff discovered a parked car on fire next to the store, with the owner sleeping inside. Seeing the dangerous situation, the staff immediately sprayed fire extinguishers at the fire and woke up the car owner. More staff quickly used high pressure fire hydrants to join the rescue, successfully putting out the fire. “Although this car owner is not our client, we are obliged to provide our help,” said Jian. “I am happy to hear that many neighbors said our staff are superheroes for successfully fighting the fire.”

During the past Spring Festival, Jian kept his store open.. On the first day of the holiday, Xi’an resident Mr. Li drove to a nearby city to visit his relatives, and on his way back, his car broke down. Li called all the car maintenance stores nearby and none was open. He took a final shot to call Jian for help, and Jian soon found the parts needed and drove 50km to provide help. Jian didn’t take any extra charge besides parts, no matter how Li insisted.

On February 11,the first day of holiday, Ms. Yan of Shanghai scratched another car by accident. Yan had never experienced this situation and panicked. She called the JD Auto Service store where she does regular maintenance. A staff from the store quickly came to Yan and helped her contact the insurance company. The staff also drove Yan’s car back to the store for repair and provided a replacement car to Yan. and paint mending service for Yan. To show her appreciation, Yan bought fruit and cakes for the store staff, which deeply touched Xingyue Hu, owner of the JD Auto Service store.

Hu had no experience in auto related business before he opened the store. But as a car owner, he was troubled with the high price of 4S stores, and lack of transparency in some other street stores. He always wanted to open an auto service store, and quickly signed up after seeing JD was looking for franchisers. JD’s support in branding, management, employee training and supply chain enabled Hu and other store owners to provide high quality products and services for customers. “Many customers chose us because we have JD’s brand endorsement,” said Hu.

Similar stories happened in Beijing, Shenzhen and other cities during the spring festival.  Hu said: “Although I kept working during the past holiday, I feel this spring festival was very special and meaningful.”

Since the system was released in February 2020, the average active clients increased 50% month by month, and the average orders increased 130% month by month.

A representative from JD Business said, “In the long term, digitalization has become a key tool for helping companies overcome challenges, and JD will continue to provide them with integrated value and services.”
