JD.com Celebrates the Launch of Slovak National Pavilion

On December 5th, JD.com announced the grand opening of the National Pavilion of Slovakia at the residence of Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to China Peter Lizák,  The event marked a significant moment, as Slovakia, famously known as the “Country of Castles,” became the 20th European country to launch a country-themed flagship store on JD.com.

Ambassador Lizák expressed in his opening remarks, “This project marks a significant milestone for Slovak enterprises and Chinese customers. It brings new potential into our bilateral cooperation.”

The Pavilion showcases a range of Slovak specialties, including the internationally acclaimed LYRA ruby milk chocolates, wine collections from 400-year-old Modra wine cellars, and exquisite RONA glassware. These specialties are now readily accessible to Chinese consumers via the JD app, offering them the ease of shopping with competitive pricing and JD’s efficient delivery services.

“This is just the beginning. More Slovak products will soon be added,” said Ambassador Lizák, revealing a number of Slovak premium dairy brands are on the way to meet Chinese consumers. Moreover, Ambassador Lizák noted the growing opportunities in tourism, especially with Slovakia’s recent inclusion on China’s overseas group tours destination list, which could attract Chinese visitors to Slovakia’s scenic landscapes and historic landmarks.

Yusuf Ma, head of JD Super’s National Pavilion program, part of the JD Retail division, said, ‘We are excited about the prospect of deepening our collaborations with additional Slovak brand partners and suppliers. This initiative is a reflection of JD’s commitment to enriching the Chinese market with a diverse assortment of high-quality products. Moreover, through our support of global brands in their journey into the Chinese market, the National Pavilion program becomes a vital link for cultural engagement and a dynamic platform for promoting tourism.” With over 50 brands achieving annual sales exceeding 1 billion RMB and more than 500 brands surpassing 100 million RMB in annual sales, JD Super has solidified its position as the go-to online store for Chinese consumers in supermarket categories, serving as a significant sales growth platform for numerous brands.

King Wang, chairman of CLIBIZ Holding Ltd., the store operator of the National Pavilion of Slovakia stated that “As the link between the embassy and JD.com, we aim to seamlessly introduce Slovak products to JD. Drawing on our expertise in online operations, we’ll focus on product curating, positioning, marketing, customer service, and more aspects for a smooth shopping experience.”

JD.com’s National Pavilion program now features over 110 pavilions, offering nearly ten thousand specialty products from almost 60 countries. The recent Singles’ Day Grand Promotion saw a remarkable 700% year-on-year growth in Gross Merchandise Volume (GMV) within the first 10 minutes, reflecting strong consumer interest in international products.

Empowering Beauty Retail: JD Worldwide Introduces Incentives and Solutions in Cross-Border E-Commerce

JD Worldwide, JD.com’s one-stop shopping platform for both imported and exported goods, recently hosted a merchant recruitment event in Shenzhen, focusing on beauty and skincare categories. Held on November 30th, the event showcased JD’s innovative cross-border e-commerce solutions, highlighting our integrated supply chain capabilities, and introduced various incentives for new merchants joining the platform.

Emerging Consumer Trends and Market Leadership

“The Gen Z demographic, primarily consisting of individuals born after the year 2000, has emerged as a major driving force in the consumption of imported beauty and skincare products. Since 2023, this group has shown an extraordinary growth of more than 250% year-on-year on JD.com,” shared the category manager of JD Worldwide. “Moreover, JD Worldwide continues to lead in engaging users from China’s smaller cities in this market segment, further establishing our platform as the go-to site for imported goods.”

JD Worldwide introduced bespoke incentive policies tailored for beauty and skincare merchants at the event, including JD’s “Spring Dawn” initiative, specifically designed to support small businesses and individual entrepreneurs in kick-starting their journey on the platform. Merchants can also benefit from substantial premiums of up to 5% of their annual sales. Additionally, we introduced specialized incentives for newcomers in categories such as perfumes and cosmetics, ranging from reduced quality assurance deposits to commission rebates.

Rising Demand for Imported Goods

The demand for imported goods in China is on an upward trajectory, fueled by increased availability, enhanced service efficiency, and a gradual reduction in prices. The “2023 Report on European Imported Product Consumption Trends,” published by JD’s Consumption and Industry Development Research Institute, reveals a 79% rise in users purchasing European imports. Notably, there’s been a 312% increase in users below 25 years and a 207% rise in transactions in county and rural markets.

During this year’s Singles’ Day Grand Promotion, JD Worldwide experienced a significant 100% year-on-year increase in transaction volume across more than 350 cross-border imported product categories. Particularly noteworthy is the 20-fold growth in our Korean direct procurement business within the beauty category.

JD Logistics Reports 70% Increase in Overseas Outbound Orders During Black Friday

During this year’s Black Friday, JD Logistics witnessed a 70% surge in overseas outbound orders, a significant increase from the same period last year. The company attributes the increase in large part to the implementation of automation technology and advanced AI algorithms, which have been instrumental in helping merchants accurately forecast sales and prepare inventory. Notably, JD Logistics’ forecasting accuracy rate exceeded 95% during Black Friday.

JD Logistics’ self-developed international warehouse management system (iWMS) played a crucial role. This cutting-edge system schedules a variety of intelligent devices, resulting in a more than threefold increase in the operational efficiency of overseas warehouses. The iWMS is a boon for local vendors, enabling them to manage a large number of SKUs effectively and allocate products to warehouses closest to consumers in advance. This foresight significantly reduces order fulfillment times from 7 days to just 2-3 days in overseas markets.

JD Logistics’ technological advancements extend to its overseas warehouses across Europe, North America, and other regions, where the company has deployed nearly one thousand pieces of automation equipment, including Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), Container Transport Units (CTUs), sorting robots, and sorting conveyor equipment. Utilizing these advanced automation technologies, JD Logistics has developed an innovative Power-Sorting-Picking (PSP) model, significantly boosting picking and sorting efficiency—achieving more than a threefold increase compared to traditional manual methods.

On the merchant front, JD Logistics developed the international order fulfillment platform (iFOP). This platform enables vendors to connect with major e-commerce marketplaces and independent sites with one click, facilitating the fulfillment of orders from various channels through an integrated inventory system.

Addressing the challenges in after-sales and reverse supply chain logistics, JD Logistics has established multiple reverse maintenance centers in Europe and North America, providing services such as acceptance inspection, refurbishment, and environmentally friendly disposal.

In China, JD Logistics operates over 1,600 warehouses and continues to expand its footprint. Its international operations include nearly 90 bonded warehouses, international direct mail warehouses, and overseas warehouses globally, covering a total gross floor area of approximately 900,000 square meters. This extensive network underscores JD Logistics’ commitment to enhancing global supply chain solutions through innovative and efficient logistics services.

FORTUNE Magazine unveiled the China’s Most Admired Companies 2023 list on November 21st. In recognition of its business excellence and industry leadership, JD.com proudly secured the 21st position on the Top 50 All-Stars List.

FORTUNE’s Chinese edition, in detailing the criteria for this ranking, emphasized the importance of a company’s “soft power,” encompassing not only operational effectiveness but also management acumen,, sustainability initiatives, and social responsibility. This year’s list highlighted companies that demonstrated exceptional adaptability and resilience in an increasingly complex and uncertain global business landscape.

JD.com distinguished itself in several key areas of “soft power” in 2023, garnering accolades for its initiatives in job creation, employee inclusiveness, and gender diversity. These commendable efforts include:

JD.com Debuts Mongolian and Finnish National Pavilions During Singles’ Day Grand Promotion

During its record-breaking 2023 Singles ‘ Day Grand Promotion, JD.com unveiled new national pavilions representing Mongolia and Finland. These pavilions mark JD.com’s latest step in connecting consumers with high-quality, authentic products from these two culturally rich countries.

The Mongolian pavilion’s launch, held at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai on November 8th, was honored by the presence of Ms. Battsetseg Batmunkh, Mongolia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Pavilion boasts a curated selection of nearly 60 Mongolian products, including limited edition vodka from the springs of Mount Bogda, the velvety Sengur White beer, nutritious sea buckthorn juice, luxurious 100% cashmere scarves, and more.

Speaking at CIIE, Tumenbayar Tsogtbaatar, Commercial Counsellor of the Mongolian Embassy to China, shared his excitement about the opportunity to bring Mongolian wild sea buckthorn and other grassland products to the Chinese market through JD.com. “By partnering with JD.com to launch the Mongolian national pavilion, we aim to provide consumers with a trustworthy and convenient online shopping experience for high-quality grassland products,” said Tumenbayar.

The Finland Pavilions were inaugurated on November 9th, as part of the celebration activities for the 70th anniversary of the China-Finland trade agreement. The event, held at the residence of the Ambassador of Finland in Beijing, was attended by the Finnish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Ms. Sari Essayah, and the Finnish Ambassador to China, Ms. Leena-Kaisa Mikkola. Reflecting the diversity of Finnish products, JD.com launched two distinct pavilions: the “Finland National Pavilion” for general trade imports and the “Finland Overseas Pavilion” focusing on cross-border trade. These pavilions offer a variety of Finnish food, skincare, and lifestyle products from renowned brands such as Valio, Fazer, Bonne, Kyrö, Salli, Lumene, and Kajo.

JD.com reported a record-breaking Singles Day Grand Promotion on November 12, 2023, with transaction volume, order volume, and user engagement reaching all-time highs.

This year’s event not only demonstrated JD.com’s commitment to offering unbeatable prices and a diverse range of high-quality products, but also showcased the resilience and growth of China’s consumption market, delivering an unmatched shopping experience to millions.

Among the highlight of this year’s promotion was the“JD Procurement and Sales Manager Livestreaming” initiative, which captivated over 380 million viewers across China. Transaction volume for over 60 brands surpassed RMB 1 billion, and nearly 20,000 brands witnessed a threefold increase in transaction volume compared to the previous year. Additionally, new merchants on the platform experienced a fivefold increase in order volume, underscoring the event’s significant impact on brand growth and consumer reach.

Innovative Livestreaming Strategy

This year’s Singles Day saw the “JD Procurement and Sales Manager Livestreaming” attracted widespread attention from both industry insiders and consumers alike. The innovative model waived booth and commission fees for brands, focusing instead on delivering unparalleled value to consumers. This approach enabled the offering of a diverse array of popular branded products at discounts as steep as 50%.

Transitioning from strategic behind-the-scenes roles, JD’s procurement and sales managers embraced the limelight. Serving as a bridge between brands and consumers, these managers brought a unique blend of deep consumer insight and extensive product knowledge. Their understanding of evolving industry trends enabled them to adeptly recommend a range of affordable, high-quality products to customers. Through this livestreaming venture, JD.com’s managers leveraged their expertise to guide consumer choices, effectively bridging the gap between brand offerings and consumer needs.

 

Low-Price Initiatives and Phenomenal Growth

Throughout the year, JD.com has been at the forefront of introducing a series of ambitious low-price initiatives. Key among these have been the “10-billion-yuan Discount” program, the “9.9-yuan Items with Free Shipping” offer, and various dynamic “Flash-sales” channels. These initiatives have not only been well-received but have also experienced a meteoric rise in popularity, particularly during the grand promotion period.

The launch of the “10-billion-yuan Discount Day” on October 31st at 8 P.M. was a landmark moment. In less than four minutes, the campaign had already generated over 100 million RMB in transactions. Additionally, the “9.9-yuan Items with Free Shipping” day, held on November 2nd, marked another significant achievement. The entire day saw a staggering 35-fold increase in order volumes and a 28-fold rise in user engagement compared to the figures from the 618 Grand Promotion.

 

Enhanced Customer Services and Expanded Trade-In Program

Throughout the promotional period, JD.com offered more 200 customer services, giving customers an even greater peace of mind when making purchases. In the past three years, JD’s “trade-in” service has been expanded to 200 product categories, directly benefiting over 20 million users. Furthermore, JD’s “price-guarantee” service, introduced in 2008, has delivering substantial savings to consumers, amounting to nearly RMB 9 billion to date. During this year’s Singles Day alone, it has saved users RMB 564 million.

 

Merchant Growth and Support Initiatives

This Singles Day marked a significant milestone for JD.com in terms of merchant growth and support. The platform witnessed a 3.4-fold increase in new shop registrations during this Singles Day, and the number of established merchants participating in the grand promotion increased by 1.5 times compared to last year’s grand promotion. A key driver of this growth was the “Spring Dawn Plan,” an innovative initiative by JD.com that distributed over RMB 100 million in subsidies to newly opened stores during this Singles Day, which attracted a wave of new merchants, thereby expanding product offerings for consumers. JD also launched a “RMB 1-yuan” package for merchants to access JD.com’s operational data open platform. The platform grants merchants comprehensive, real-time insights into store operations, enabling them to make data-driven decisions and optimize their business strategies effectively.

 

Brand Performance and On-Demand Retail Expansion

Numerous brands achieved explosive sales growth. During the first week of promotion, starting October 23rd, nearly 30 brands reached sales of over RMB 1 billion, and the transaction volume of nearly 15,000 brands increased more than fivefold YoY, with nearly 9,000 brands experiencing over tenfold growth in transaction volume.

Within 10 minutes of the sales period commencing on October 31st, major mobile phone brands like iPhone, Xiaomi, Honor, Huawei, OPPO, and vivo experienced a 100% increase in transaction volume YoY. This trend was not limited to technology; premium luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, GUCCI, and DIOR also saw their transaction volumes more than triple within the first 30 minutes compared to the previous year.

The surge of on-demand retail, featuring one-hour delivery, continues to gain momentum. This year’s Singles Day saw the integration of more than 400,000 brick-and-mortar stores into JD’s on-demand retail business, JDDJ, doubling the store network from the previous year. Consumers in over 2,200 counties and districts across China enjoyed the convenience of instant shopping, with products delivered to their doorstep within minutes. The ShopNow business saw a 60% YoY increase in the number of users placing orders, underscoring the growing consumer preference for quick and efficient shopping experiences.

 

Industrial Belt Collaborations

JD Super, the supermarket business under JD Retail, collaborated with over 2,000 industrial belts nationwide, showcasing hundreds of thousands of high-quality agricultural products that resulted in sales peaks. Fujian province’s dried yellow croaker and Yunnan province’s corn experienced YoY growth of 300% and 237%, respectively. The impact of the initiatives was further amplified through the “9.9-yuan Items with Free Shipping” program.

Additionally, sectors such as apparel, home appliances and furniture, and fittings and hardware within these industrial belts witnessed substantial growth. The number of merchants in these sectors expanded dramatically, with increases of 248%, 141%, and 150% respectively. JD’s private label brands, JZao and Huixun, were instrumental in enhancing this dynamic ecosystem, forging partnerships with over 70% of key industrial belts.

 

Logistics Supply Chain and Technology Excellence and International Expansion

On the logistics front, a Bosideng down jacket dispatched from JD Logistics’ flagship Qingdao industrial park on October 23rd marked China’s 100 billionth express delivery parcel in 2023. JD Logistics’ industry-leading logistics infrastructure ensures that 95% of JD’s retail orders can be delivered within 24 hours, with over 10 million products eligible for same-day delivery.

JD Cloud, the cornerstone of JD’s technology, saw peak user visits per second increase by 170% compared with the same period last year, and its intelligent customer service handled more than 1.4 billion inquires.

Additionally, JD’s omnichannel retail brand in Europe, ochama, marked another milestone this Singles Day by extending its doorstep delivery service to 24 European countries. In the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium, selected pick-up points extended their operating hours until 22:00, providing consumers with a wide range of quality products at low prices and flexible fulfillment and delivery services.

At the core of these advancements is JD.com’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology and its deep expertise in streamlining supply chain operations. This strategic focus has significantly enhanced the efficiency of JD.com’s supply chain, enabling the company to offer substantial price reductions on its products.
